Pam's Best Albums of 2007
Published by Pam on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 12:33 AMI don't know why it took me so long to get this list together. This list just screams of obvious and I'm ashamed to say that I didn't listen to that many albums this year.
10. Feist - The Reminder
Buy | Official Site
By jove, did Feist bring on the handclaps this year! This was one of the earlier albums and it was incredibly catchy and dance-ably fun and therefore abused mercilessly in TV adverts around the world. Still a great album to listen to!
Feist - Sea Lion Woman
9. Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War
Buy | Official Site
The latter of two Stars releases this year, I don't think this album was as good as their past work but it was still a very likable album. There was a lushness and grandness, and yet something quiet and very intimate that I was really drawn to.
Stars - The Beginning After The End
8. The Most Serene Republic - Population
Buy | Official Site
I'd heard about The Most Serene Republic through their remix of a Stars song and their indie rock is amazingly beautiful. A little bit Broken Social Scene-esque, they sound like the soundtrack to the best day of your life.
The Most Serene Republic - The Men Who Live Upstairs
7. Stars - Do You Trust Your Friends?
Buy | Official Site
Remix albums usually really suck but I love this one. Sure, it's got everything to do with loving the original album, 'Set Yourself On Fire', and being a huge fan of remixes (as singles) but some of these tracks are practically new songs altogether.
Stars - Celebration Guns (Camouflage Nights with Kevin Drew)
6. Muscles - Guns Babes Lemonade
Buy | Official Site
My one and only live Muscles experience probably stopped me from realizing earlier that I freaking adore this album. It's been the year of dance-y electro things from me and why shouldn't this be on my list? It's flat out fun and dance.
Muscles - Chocolate Raspberry Lemon & Lime
5. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
Buy | Official Site
Finally getting this album so late in the year is probably why it's so far down the list. Nevertheless, it's still full of twisted lyrics, and those trademark violin stylings. And the cover photography was by a lady who teaches at my university, hurrah!
Andrew Bird - Darkmatter
4. New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom
Buy | Official Site
Tahita's vocals are dripping with sexy, the drums and bass are ridiculously addictive, and it's simply that fantastically flavoured electro pop which has been tickling my taste buds for the past year.
New Young Pony Club - Tight Fit
3. Eisley - Combinations
Buy | Official Site
When this came out I was SO SURE that it would top my end of year list and my last.fm charts. Alas, neither happened but it was still obvious that I loved this album at least ten times more than their previous one. They sounded fuller, stronger, more aggressive and more confident.
Eisley - A Sight To Behold
2. Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
Buy | Official Site
I know, I too am shocked that this isn't my #1 but there are a couple of reasons: a) the actual #1 really deserves it; and b) this isn't my favourite Patrick album. Still, there's something about this album that has possibly changed my life. It has turned me into a joyfully insane fangirl who looks forward to each day as if it is a party.
Patrick Wolf - The Stars
1. Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
Buy | Official Site
This was my unmistakable #1 album this year. It was grander, more melodic, more likable, and averaging 70 play counts per song (plain crazy for an album that's only been out for 2 months). The collaboration with Owen Pallett contributed to my love for this album and these music videos enhanced my adoration for it.
Beirut - Nantes
Labels: andrew bird, beirut, eisley, feist, muscles, new young pony club, patrick wolf, stars, the most serene republic
